The 26-year-old broke into the national side in June 2023 after displaying quality performances for the Red Dragons in the National League last season. In the ongoing campaign, he has maintained consistency and has appeared in 23 matches for the club across all competitions.

On Mendy's selection in the national team, Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson told the club's official website, "We’re all pleased for Jacob, it’s a good opportunity for him and he is very proud to represent his country. We wish him all the best and will be watching him closely during the tournament."
Mendy too shared his views on getting picked for the AFCON as he said: "It is a very proud moment for me. It has always been a dream that I can represent my country and to be selected is an honour."
